Dr. Uy Mbanefo
Dr. Uyammadu Mbanefo was born by the Royal family dynasty of Eze Asaqwe of Atani in Ogbaru, Anambra State, Nigeria by Chukwuma Mbanefo and Omebelle Oduah Mbanefo (both deceased). He received an inspiration from our father and while only a teen, vowed to wipe out illiteracy in his family and in the community.
His journey started at his birthplace of Odekpe, Ogbaru local Government in Anambra State Nigeria. He went to High School at Christ the King College, Onitsha and obtained a grade one West African School Certificate with distinctions. He was the first person to obtain that class in Ogbaru Local Government. Not quite satisfied, he went to Federal School of Science Victoria Island Lagos. He became amongst the Nigerian best, with a scholarship awarded by the Federal Government of Nigeria. In 1962 he traveled to the United States to study Aeronautic & Astronautic Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He obtained both a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in 1965 and 1966 respectively. He was not done, he also went on to receive a Ph.D in Applied Mathematics at the University of California Berkeley.
He worked at various aircraft companies, of which includes Douglas Aircraft, Air Research Manufacturing Company, The Garrett Corporation, and Northrop Grumman Corporation, Military Aircraft Division. He engaged in various research works including Face Sheet Wrinkling in Sandwich, prepared under contract with NASA. He held professional membership with American Institute of Aeronautic and Astronautic, American Mechanical Society.
He championed a philanthropist scholarship organization, under the name of his father Chukwuma Mbanefo Scholarship for undergraduate studies in Ogbaru local government Anambra State Nigeria. He touched so many lives. May his soul rest in peace.
